We are happy to congratulate our Vice Director Esther Peeren with her appointment as Professor of Cultural Analysis.

ACGS’s Vice Director Esther Peeren has been appointed Professor of Cultural Analysis within the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Humanities. She is the first to hold a Chair in Cultural Analysis.

Last year, her research project "Imagining the Rural in a Globalizing World" was awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant. Recent publications include an article on the affective dimension of the political mobilization of the rural in Landscape Research (2018), a volume (co-edited with Robin Celikates, Jeroen de Kloet and Thomas Poell) on Global Cultures of Contestation (Palgrave, 2018), a volume (co-edited with Hanneke Stuit and Astrid Van Weyenberg) on Peripheral Visions in a Globalizing World (Brill 2016) and contributions to the open access publication Symptoms of the Planetary Condition: A Critical Vocabulary (Meson Press, 2017).
